  • Description : Matar poha | green peas poha upma is a healthy and quick breakfast recipe, made using thick poha and fresh green peas, recipe with step by step pictures.

Thick poha 1 cup Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp + 1/4 tsp Sugar 1 tsp Salt as needed Green peas 1/2 cup Oil 4 tsp Cumin seeds 1/4 tsp Onion 2 Green chili 3-4 Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp Peanuts 1-2 tblsp (optional) Coriander leaves few Lemon juice 1 tsp

Method  :

  • Wash the poha | aval and drain the water.
  • Add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, salt and sugar to this and mix well.
  • Keep it aside.
  • Chop the onions finely and slit the green chili.
  • In a pan add oil and add the mustard seeds and once it crackles add the slit green chili.
  • Add the raw peanuts to this and saute for few minutes in a medium low flame.
  • Add the chopped onions to this.
  • Add little salt and cook the onions till translucent.
  • Add in the turmeric powder to this.
  • Add green peas now, if using fresh peas, pressure cook for 2 whistles and add.
  • I used frozen peas.
  • Saute for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the cumin seeds now.
  • Now add the poha mixture to this.
  • Mix well evenly.
  • Let this cook for 2-3 minutes in a medium flame.
  • Add the lemon juice and mix well.
  • Switch off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves.
  • MAtar poha is ready to serve.
  • Serve the matar poha hot with ginger flavored tea.
  1. Always use thick poha for this matar poha.
  2. If you want you can add some veggies to make it more healthy.
  3. As peas has a sweetish taste, adding more green chilis will be tasty for the matar poha.
