- Description : Getti chutney, the traditional south Indian coconut chutney served in restaurants, pairs well with bonda and bajji
Coconut 1 cup Roasted gram dal 1 tblsp Ginger a small piece Green chili 2 Oil 2 tsp Mustard seeds 1/4 tsp Curry leaves few Asafoetida a pinch Salt as needed
Method:
- In a mixie jar add the grated coconut, roasted gram dal (pottukadalai), ginger, green chili and salt.
- Grind this into a paste, adding little water to this.
- Do not pulse this into a fine paste, a very slight coarse paste is also fine.
- Transfer this to a bowl.
- Temper this with mustard seeds, asafoetida and curry leaves in 2 tsp oil.
- Mix well.
- Serve with bonda, vellaiappam, thavala dosai or bajji too.
- The chutney goes well with idli dosa too.
- Do not add more water while grinding.
- Always prepare the chutney with freshly grated coconut.
- Prepare the chutney just an hour before making as refrigerating for a long time will spoil the texture of the getti chutney.
