Ellu sadam , sesame seeds rice – No onion no garlic ellu sadam recipe with step-by-step pictures.

Ellu sadam is a very simple rice recipe that we generally do during the Saturdays of the Tamil month Puratasi. Today being Puratasi Saturday, I wanted to share the recipe of ellu sadam today.

We can use white or black sesame seeds for making this recipe. You can pack this for a lunch box too on a normal day. Apart from making this for Purasani Saturday neivedyam, you can make this for Navaratri Saturday too.

  • METHOD: Roast the sesame seeds till golden brown. Keep this aside.
Ellu sadam - 1
  • Roast the urad dal and red chili till the dal becomes a nice golden brown. Do this on a low flame.
Ellu sadam - 2
  • When it is cool, grind it into a fine powder along with the roasted sesame seeds and asafoetida.
Ellu podi - 3
  • Mix this into the cooled-down cooked rice.
  • Add 2 tsp of sesame oil to this.

  • . Add sesame oil and a few curry leaves and mix well.

  • Ellu sadam is ready for neivedyam now.

Note:

  • Always ensure that the rice should be cooked properly and not mashed.
  • You can roast 1 tbsp of peanuts in little oil and add it to the rice.
  • If you feel the sesame seeds are bit dirt, wash this nicely and drain the water, and dry them in a cloth. when it is dry, roast this and follow the procedure above.
  • You can make Ellu sadam with black sesame seeds.

Ellu sadam recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cooked rice 1/4 cup raw rice
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp urad dal
  • 3-4 red chili add as per your spice levels
  • A pinch asafoetida
  • Salt as needed
  • Curry leaves few
  • 2 tsp sesame oil

Instructions

  • Roast the sesame seeds till golden brown.
